In the residency series 'Extratool', Extrapool cedes its studio space for a few days to a duo of musicians or (sound-)artists to make two new compositions. This fourth edition came into being in Extrapool. Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy & Nicolas Cueille worked throughout five days in our performance space before recording their work at the Willen Twee Studios. In this Extratool edition they took it upon themselves to not only work with the instruments by Yuri Landman but also relate their work to the theme of potions ans tinctures that Extrapool presented in this months art program.

Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy & Nicolas Cueille
Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy (Tachycardie, Pneu, I N S T I T U T R I C E, La Colonie de vacances) is a percussionist cranking up sounds with electronics. He explores the depths of sonic matter. Finding natural oscillations (stones, plants, found objects) and combining them with electronic ones of a custom build synthesizer. Jean-Baptiste beat his way to Nijmegen together with long-time-label-friend Nicolas Cueille.

Nicolas Cueille is an underground musician from France. His only release so far is plainly titled ‘Nicolas Cueille et le synthétiseur Yamaha CS1X’. It winks to the Japanese ambient wave that was apparent when the Yamaha CS1X was presented in the late 90’s.
A strong rhythmic drive drives us to believe that a wonderful percussive release will be crafted in this Extratool residency.
