In the residency series 'Extratool', Extrapool cedes its studio space for a few days to a duo of musicians or (sound-)artists to make two new compositions. For this third in a series of cassette editions we team up with Valkhof Festival once more. The cassette was presented there live in the medieval Sint Nicolas Chapel. In the week leading up to this concert, Limpe Fuchs and Zoro Babel worked on this concentrated residency format in the studio and performance space of Extrapool. Here they explored the materiality and spatial resonance of the sounds. Pursuing both call and response improvisation as well as composing from prerecorded parts.

Limpe Fuchs & Zoro Babel
Limpe Fuchs is a percussionist, creator of sound sculptures and pioneer in exploring sounds in diverse materials and spaces. In the late sixties, this percussionist drummed on self-made instruments, together with her then husband Paul Fuchs, in the Ensemble Anima. Spread over now six (!) decades, she has built a repertoire that still continues to grow. She built large-scale and homemade instruments from metal, wood and stone. Fuchs adds violin and voice to these theatrical objects to arrive at her patchwork of sounds; music in the flow of time. In Nijmegen, she collaborated with her son producer and multi-instrumentalist Zoro Babel. The residency was one of the rare occasions in which they composed and recorded as a duo.
